Debris Removal

Debris removal began immediately using Precinct 3 crews. On Thursday, September 18, 2008, the disaster relief contractors began collecting debris from the neighborhood streets and delivering it to a debris staging area adjacent to the Precinct 3 offices. As of the end of the day on Sunday, November 9th, over 9,400 truck loads had been removed which equates to over 316,127 cubic yards of tree debris.

Along Your Road

Please place your debris in separate piles near, but not on the road. If your road is open-ditch, please place the piles at the top of the back slope of your ditch in order to keep the debris from blocking the drainage.

There will be three (3) complete passes for debris removal by the disaster relief trucks through every street in Precinct 3. The trucks will be picking up loose tree debris and building debris. Per FEMA guidelines, the trucks will not pick-up bagged debris. Please contact your regular trash collection company to inquire if they will pick-up the bags.

Citizen Debris Drop-off Site
The temporary citizen debris drop-off site for tree and building debris has been closed. Please bring debris to the Precinct 3 Recycling Center at 1122 Pruitt Road. Click here for Directions.

When citizens have been bringing in plastic bags of tree debris, per FEMA guidelines, Precinct 3 crews have been emptying the bags and placing the debris in huge piles. The empty plastic bags have been collected, baled and will be recycled. As of Friday, October 3rd, four (4) bales, weighing 1,700 pounds on average, have been generated from citizens bringing in their tree debris. Consider how much tree debris is held within almost four (4) tons of empty plastic bags.
